Yes I'll admit it. I had always heard of Freda Payne but only in connection with "Band of gold". I have been in the mode of just having to have a copy of "Band of gold" when I found this album on a search. Of course I got my copy of "Band of gold" but I soon discovered a bunch of other great songs on this album. Check it out, it's worth it!/5(9).

FREDA PAYNE Vinyl Records and CDs Blessed with natural pitch and a strong voice, Freda Payne will forever be known for her '70s Soul hit "Band of Gold." Growing up in Detroit, she was at ease singing Motown style Soul, but it is her lesser known work as a jazz singer that has sustained her career.

The H-D-H "Complete Singles Collection" is a bit of a sham. I will explain. I have often wished for the "Creative Corporation" to do a singles box, like Motown did with their 4-CD "Hitsville", which is nothing less than stellar, followed by their multi-volume "Complete Motown Singles" boxed sets, which are stupendous in their breadth and for the sheer volume of classic music within.
